We talked about healthy eating this morning at before school care, and we made our own healthy lunchboxes or dinners. We talked about the importance of good nutrition and what it might look like when completing this exercise. This led to a group discussion at roll time about the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, in which we looked at the various components, which are fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein. We also discussed balance and the need of eating nutritious snacks and meals before enjoying sweets. Eating a variety of foods not only keeps our meals interesting and flavorful, but it is also essential for a healthy and balanced diet because each item contains a unique combination of nutrients.
