Today we completed Mr Male's weekly challenge. It was a timed activity, where children had 60 seconds to transfer as many grains of rice from a plate into a bowl using chopsticks. The plate and the bowl were one chopstick's length apart.
This activity really challenged the childrens' fine motor skills, since the task required finger dexterity and precision to accurately apply the right amount of force to hold onto the grains of rice, whilst also requiring speed. As it was a challenging task it required a lot of resilience to keep persisting, even when not much progress was being made at times. It also allowed the children to show care and compassion to those who weren't doing as well at the task .
The intention of the activity was to provide children with the opportunity to develop a sense of community spirit by participating in challenges provided by the school Principal.
